News Alert - Ofcom changes date for 0870 changes

0870 is changing – but when?

Ofcom had announced significant changes to the 0870 number range that would end all revenue share on these numbers and could mean that you pay up to 5ppm to receive calls to your 0870 number (BT published figures). These changes were to become effective from 1 February 2008.  

However Ofcom has now announced a delay in the implementation of 0870 until at least the Spring-Summer. 

Research has shown that many companies using 0870 numbers were unaware of the impending change. The delay may therefore give them a chance to reassess their numbering strategy.

0871 was also due to change in February 2008. It was to become a premium rate number regulated by PhonePayPlus (previously ICSTIS). This has also been delayed and is unlikely to become effective before summer 2008.
